BIOGRAPHY Ivan (Alex) Games is a doctoral student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, working with advisor Kurt Squire and the GLS group. He holds a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico. Prior to transferring to Wisconsin, he completed two years of coursework as a doctoral student in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He has years of experience developing artificial intelligence, robotics, and instrumentation systems. He has also worked as a high-school computer science teacher in Mexico and pioneered a videogame-based learning curriculum in the 1990s. He is a seasoned videogamer with more than twenty years of playing and designing games for education. Alex’s research interest lies in exploring the development of scientific thinking skills and habits (systems-level thinking, problem-solving, self-regulation) through the use of videogames and simulations in the classroom.
